California Photography Workshops

 

Keith Skelton

Keith Skelton grew up in rural Oregon working in canneries, and farms. He has been a professional photographer since 1980 working for clients such as Boeing, Leo Burnett Chicago, and Expeditors International. He has been published in The New York Times, The Oregonian, Travel and Leisure, and Newsweek, just to name a few. Keith has shot everything from Keiko the whale to Presidents Carter and Clinton.

Recent personal projects include photography in India, China, Guatemala, and Mexico. Keith has also been teaching workshops through Santa Monica College and Pasadena City College for seven years.

Keith originally studied music but ended up studying art and photography. He graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in 1980 with a BA degree in Commercial Photography and a minor in Photojournalism. He also attended the University of Hawaii and the University of Oregon.

Brian Leng has come a long way since the days shooting for the Hamilton High Yankees high school paper back in 1968.

After high school, he attended Santa Monica College and later received his BA from Brooks Institute of Photography.

In 1974, Brian opened up his first photography studio in Hollywood and began shooting assignments for advertising agencies, design firms, and corporations. Brian operated the studio for over fifteen years with his wife, artist representative, Jill Youmans. Some of their clients included J.C. Penny, Herbal Life, and Eastman Kodak. He photographed everything from a camel having lunch in a restaurant, to 300 Groucho Marx look-a-likes.

Brian is currently an instructor at Santa Monica College where he has been teaching for 15 years. Teaching has turned into Brian's main focus. He enjoys sharing his knowledge with the next generation of aspiring photographers.

Brian was also past president of the Southern California chapter of ASMP (American Society of Magazine Photographers) and on the board of directors for APA (Advertising Photographers of America). Brian has recently volunteered his services to a Heart Touch International outreach HIV/AIDS program in Thailand. www.hearttouch.org

 
Adam Jahiel is an artist, photojournalist, and educator. Adam grew up in the university town of Champaign-Urbana where his father is is a professor of film history and French literature studies at The University of Illinois. Edwin Jahiel is also a well known

Adam has a BA degree in Commercial Photography from Brooks Institute and a photojournalism degree from the prestigious University of Missouri. Adam has taught at Brooks Institute and was a photo instructor for SEMESTER AT SEA. http://www.semesteratsea.com/. Adam also documented a Titanic Expedition, and was a photographer for the Sacramento Bee. He has been published extensively, and has done numerous commercial assignments. He lives in Wyoming with wife and two children.

Brian Leng

Mako Koiwai grew up in Germany and began taking photographs for the high school publications in the 1960s. He began specializing in sports photography including Formula One Racing and downhill skiing. He landed his first cover on The New York Times Magazine in 1976.

Soon afterwards he moved permanently to the US and began at Brooks Institute of Photography. Mako developed an interest in motion picture work and has become one of the most successful Assistant Camera Operators in Hollywood. Mako has worked on numerous films, television shows, commercials, and music videos. He also remains a still photographer. His hobbies include auto racing and hobby air gun shooting.
